(Millerton, New York, U.S.) Now in its third generation of family ownership, Harney & Sons began in 1983 when John Harney developed a passion for fine teas. John started blending distinctive tea varieties in his basement, serving them to guests at the inn he operated in Salisbury, Connecticut.
Today, Harney & Sons carries an extensive selection of Fair Trade Certified™ teas, supporting fair trade practices that promote sustainable livelihoods, safe working conditions, environmental protection, and transparent supply chains worldwide. They have also partnered with 1% for the Planet for over a decade, donating 1% of their sales to environmental organizations across the globe — and actively encouraging their business associates to do the same.
The Harney family and their staff are proud to contribute to a global movement focused on protecting the environment, one percent at a time. As of early 2025, with their customers’ help, Harney & Sons will have donated over $6 million to environmental causes through 1% for the Planet.
