(NORWICH, VERMONT) The King Arthur Baking Company, formerly known as the King Arthur Flour Company, is an American supplier of flour, baking mixes, cookbooks, and baked goods. Founded in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1790, it holds the distinction of being the oldest flour company in the United States.
In 1996, King Arthur transitioned to a 100 percent employee-owned structure through an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), with approximately 100 employees at the time. The move to employee ownership was a natural extension of the company’s existing values, reinforcing its commitment to shared success. Since then, King Arthur Baking Company has grown significantly and now employs several hundred people. The ESOP was a catalyst for that growth, not merely a result of it.
King Arthur Baking Company is also a Certified B Corporation, underscoring its dedication to social and environmental responsibility alongside its employee-ownership structure.
