Little Yellow Bird

(Wellington, New Zealand) This small clothing company is setting a new standard for sustainability. Little Yellow Bird uses 100 percent organic and sustainably grown cotton. They then weave and dye the cotton using low-impact techniques that conserve water and energy. Their products, mostly workwear, are manufactured in factories that adhere to ethical standards, including fair wages, safe working conditions, and no forced or child labor.

But the company doesn’t stop there. Little Yellow Bird’s circularity program ensures that its clothing doesn’t end up in landfills at the end of its lifespan. In fact, they even accept clothing from other brands. The clothes get sorted by condition and are either resold, donated, or downcycled into items such as dog beds. Clothing beyond repair is broken down and recycled into new fabrics. In 2021, Little Yellow Bird was recognized as a “Best for the World” B Corp, which placed them in the top 5 percent of all B Corps for their overall impact on workers, community, customers, and the environment.
